Girly Bear's Paw

Back to the mystery quilt... I doubled sewed the star points so I could get a "bonus" triangle. So I had 96 2" HSTs each of pink and purple. Bear's Paw or Claw was the first thing to pop into my mind. My husband helped me decided that Paw would be a better version.

I never did understand why almost all Bear's Paws out there are in what I call "cabin" colors. Colors you would use to decorate a rustic log cabin. Time for a change! Nice and girly for me. :)

What I need opinions on is... do I sash or not? If yes, do I do one color like in the pictures, or do I go for scrappy? I want there to be a nice balance of pink and purple. I also like the no-sashing idea, but I had a duh moment. If I wasn't gonna sash... then why didn't I sew the blocks together with all the toes pointing inwards?! I'm just kinda stuck this time.

So the blocks are put aside for the moment and now I'm working on making a raggy jean/flannel quilt. Cutting them at 7" square, and will finish at 5". I'm planning to free motion quilt on the squares, play around with new ideas and such. Gotta practice for my future long arm machine, right? ;)

I like the girly colors (of course, if it includes purple, I like it), and I do prefer the sashing--accentuates the center pink 'sashing' between the four paws to also separate the blocks with sashing. And I like the purple, but maybe scrappy purple for the sashing. Many fabrics are always better than one.

Must say, I love this pattern in bright colours! You're right, one tends to see it in "rustic cabin" colours and while its interesting, they are just not my colours....

I rather like it with the purple, adds another layer of complexity to draw my eye in rather than just the simply pink which looks like sashing when you place the blocks side by side...

I'm sure whatever you choose will be great though.

I'd go for the all one purple sashing. Otherwise it looks really pink which is not the look you were going for. And to me a scrappy sashing would detract from your blocks. Just my opnion and probably not worth a durn but you did ask. :-)

I almost always add sashing to blocks like this because I don't have to match up all the points that would be touching. I'm lazy! :)

I love it with the purple sashing. What if you put pink cornerstones in the sashing?

I like it with sashing! I love the colors too - you are right, I have never ever seen a Bear's Paw done in pinks/purples.

Cheers!

Purple sashing with pink corner stones - same size as the "sashing and corner stones in the actual blocks. I like the one purple shown....
