Weekend Report

Ahh... nice to have my husband home again. :)

I did take advantage of his absence by making this healthy version of Sweet and Sour Pineapple Pork.

Next time I make it, I'll have to double up on the pineapple and sauce. It took me 2.5 hours to make on Thursday and it was all gone by Friday evening. It's yummy! :)

Most of my efforts in the past few days went into cutting half-yard pieces into strips. I figured that there was over 40 yards of fabric cut in all. Each half-yard took me about 5 minutes to cut... so somewhere around 7 hours to cut them all!! What you see to the right of the picture is just a PART of the 2.5" stack. I have 1.5", 2", 3.5", 4" and one 4.5" because I was aiming for a 3.5" and forgot to look on what inch I was on. :P

I have truly taken over the entire apartment with my quilting. Bedroom has a large part of my stash, living room has my ironing board, sewing machine and bins of fabric. Bathroom holds all my hand dyeing equipment. Dining room has more fabric, my storage drawers and generally where I would cut. But my back finally couldn't take heavy duty cutting by hunching over the dining table, so I slipped on my sandals with 2" heels and at last, took over the kitchen too! :D And wow... it really helped my back. You may also feel free to swoon over my less-than-superior housekeeping skills. *giggle* I have priorities! And apparently shutting the silverware drawer all the way isn't one of them. ;)

What I'm currently cutting is for Bonnie's Star Struck that I'm gonna use my hand dyes and black Kona with. Should be a stunner! Also cutting squares for the 9-patch due February 1st. Eek. That's like 2 days away! :)

Isn't it wonderful to be alone for a while so you can take over the house! It sounds like it was very productive for you...

I too have taken over the whole house with my sewing and quilting. Well maybe not the bathroom yet!

I need to get busy and get my strip boxes full again. Thanks for the inspiration.

Thanks for showing it with the $20. It gives a good size comparison and it is even smaller that I visualized. It is so neat, I just love it! I may have to add a miniature quilt to my "to do" list. Isn't it nice to have the house to yourself sometimes! I like to eat pizza and quilt all weekend when DH's gone. But I have two dogs to keep me company, so that helps!

I spent a few months this summer cutting a lot of my stash into strips for scrappy quilts. I have 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5 and 5inch strips. Plus I cut all the odd sized bits into assorted squares and bricks. Once I get a few more of my UFOs done that I really want to finish I plan to work thru a bunch of Bonnie's patterns using these strips, squares and bricks.

And my quilting has also spilled over into the whole house. So much that it's gotten so messy I'm trying my best to get it all back into the sewing room. Until I got sick I'd spent a few minutes each day since Christmas removing everything from my sewing room that is not directly used for quilting. And slowly moving quilting stuff from the rest of the house back to the sewing room. I look forward to having all my stuff in one place where I know where it is and don't have to look for stuff everytime I get ready to sew.
