9-patch Snowball

At the beginning of this year I was in a 9-patch swap. The requirements were batiks or hand dyed fabrics, using Kona Black. I think I sent in 35 blocks.

There was also another swap going on at the same time, snowball blocks with hand dyed or batik centers. I wanted it to be the other way around, black in the middle and the corners to be batiks/hand dyed. So I bowed out of that swap.

Last week I started to work on my own snowball blocks, using the fabric my mom and I had dyed. I adore the combinations my mom came up with! I just can't get past the secondary colors, I guess tertiary colors are just beyond my grasp. But Mom is more than happy to play around... and I'm more than happy to use it up in a quilt! ;)

I'm 4 snowball blocks short. Phooey. And I might have to redo a few of the 9-patches, cuz a few look like they're 6.25 instead of 6.5" and I don't think I can stretch them out enough to make it work. Too bad we all can't have the perfect quarter-inch every time we sew... life would be so much easier! :P

Hmm.

If you're still short both kinds of blocks, you could make one row skinnier and use the slightly smaller ones in that row... lol

Or seriously, save all the slightly small ones and make a matching pillow sham.

Snowball/9 patch is one of my favorite quilt designs. The one I usually turn to when I just want to sew but don't care what. Yours in black/batiks/handdyes is absolutely wonderful! Makes me want to go play in my batik scraps. :-)

I love your quilt. The black does make the colors swap.

Your quilt is great. I think nothing brings out colors like black. Your hand-dyes are beautiful.

It's a a cool twist a a traditionally amish look. I like it. What are your plans for this quilt?

I like the 9-patch/snowball combo too. Here's one that I've made. And I love putting black into a quilt rather than white. But I also like white... I'm rambling.

Whoops! The Snowball quilt is about 3/4's of the way down the scroll bar.

Awesome job! To answer your question, yes, I think about dyeing fabrics all the time. Hubby is wanting some space in the bedroom though, so I don't dare take on anything else.

It's a very pretty quilt, and I love the black. It makes the colors pop.

Its going to be a very pretty quilt. Batik/hand-dye is one of my favorite kinds of fabric, and black always seems to make it sing.

Now that looks like a great quilt! I would definitely make something like that. I need to make some snowballs. I have made that block yet.

WOW! And now it is "just" putting togeter and quilt it.
I love it. Is it made of batik only or is it just a exclusive look. My eyes are wide open.
How big is each block?
