Shrunken quilt

I'm kinda stunned at how much the quilt shrunk after being washed. Not a bad kind of stunned though. :)

According to my math, the quilt was about 54x45 inches before washing. I just measured it, and it's 50x42! Wow. Does anybody know if it's mostly the fabric, or the Warm and Natural batting?

I can't get a good picture, the light sucks at the moment. So all you get is this teaser to let you know that it's bound and washed. Better pictures tomorrow! :)

I have been following your process on this quilt. I love the colors! The stars you have quilted go perfect with it all!

So, the first measurement was after quilting? I also am amazed at the difference before and after washing. Thanks for the info.

Leah, I'm stunned by how quickly you put the quilt together. It's a gorgeous quilt. The colors are so yummy. Someday I want to be as good as you at quilting.

As for the shrinkage I think Elaine may have a point. There is some shrinkage when you quilt, isn't there?

I've been measuring my quilts before and after quilting and always lose at least 2" both vertical and horizontal. Most of my quilts are hand quilted and the more quilting goes in, the more shrinkage there is. Whatever size my quilts are to be once finished, I make sure that an extra 2-4" is added in. My fabrics are prewashed and I use polyester batting. I wash my quilts and line dry them. Based on this, for my quilts, it is the quilting that shrinks the size.
BTW your quilt is gorgeous ... love the colours!
