Gonna pout, gonna cry

The lament of many quilters: my iron died!

Same ol' story, but the second chapter.

Actually, today was a little more dramatic - it started to smoke. I thought a piece of lint or fuzz got under the soleplate. Took a compressed air cannister, blew it like crazy, plug it back it.

Yay! No more smoke.

Wait.

Why aren't the lights on? It's hot. It feels hot.

*fiddle and fuss for 5 minutes*

Oh. Not hot now. Pooh. Bye bye iron! Glad I could get 2 years out of you. :)

Why does quilting have to be murder to irons?! :P

Leah, Sweetheart,
Go to Goodwill or the Salvation army and buy you some irons. They are usually only a couple bucks, and the older ones will last you forever. At a couple bucks, buy a couple, or several, then you will have backups.

One thing I do, too, is I buy the travel irons. Most I buy are like new, because afterall, who irons? (Only quilters?) Most travel irons are graduation gifts, or gifts of another sort, and never used, or if they are used, not much. I have a bunch of ladies who meet in my basement once a month, and I have gifted several travel irons to them. They like them for their small size, and the fact they are compact and easy to pack and travel with. If the irons poop out, I just give them another one, but they do last a really long time.

If you like the compact irons, and you don't want steam, try to find the vintage travel irons. They get really HOT, and quilters LOVE them.
Let me know if you need one. I can send you one!

Just something to think about. Being the 'thrift queen' I am, I just can't help myself!

Oh my last iron was throwing sparks when I finally decided to put it to rest. It still got hot, so it was hard to throw it out...but I was afraid one day it'd catch my fabric on fire!

I was on the way to a quilt retreat a few years back when I remembered that I didn't pack my iron. I stopped in at a Walmart and picked up one of their under $10 irons... I've been using it for about 4 years now and its still working great. My Rowenta sits on the shelf... go figure! lol

You poor thing. At least your cats didn't break it. That is what happens at my house. Good luck finding a new one that gets hot enough.

I finally found a really good iron. It's a Press Pro from Sargent Steam. 2 quarts of water in an external tank and it never spits or yellows my quilts. And there's NO auto shut off so I can sew and quilt for hours. The steam is amazing. I only use my water sprayer for terminal wrinkles now. Pricey, but incredibly worth it.
